Merry Christmas in July, Holly Wreath Card and Tutorial

Salutations of the season to all!  And just like that, it’s the end of July!  Let’s get a head start on Christmas cards!

My card today is from the NEW Birch Press Design Festive Floral release!

I’m using the NEW Holly Wreath Plate die set. Keep reading for a tutorial how I made the wreath without layering!  First the finished card pictures…

Close up showing the NEW Handwritten Merry Christmas and Outline die set… so beautiful! I love how he included the dot of the ‘i’ onto the ‘t’!  No gluing tiny dots this time!  (well except on the wreath hohoho)

A shot from the side…

Sentiment from Birch Press Design Kind Hearts clear stamp set. (gorgeous sentiments in this one)

Here’s how I made this card in pictures…hope it works!  Let me know what you think!  Was it worth it?

I started by die cutting Layer C in Hammermill 100# Color Copy Cover cardstock.  Keep both pieces.

Now, using Layer A (the plate with all the detail), lay the plain wreath you die cut with Layer C into layer A die, right side into the die.

Next we are going to emboss the plain wreath die cut by running it through the die cut machine. From the bottom up you’ll need the standard platform, clear cutting plate, tan (squishy) mat, die cut in the die with cutting blades facing into the mat and on top a clear cutting plate.

(If you have the older multi purpose platform, use it like you would a regular embossing folder. Fold the top layer back.)

Look how cool this is… it’s embossed!

Now we’re going to ink the wreath with Distress ink.  In my picture I grabbed regular Distress ink but when I was making my card, I used Distress Oxide Rustic Wilderness.  ugh.  My regular are out in plain view and my oxide are in a drawer now. Change is hard! lol  I used my oxide brush with regular ink.  There go my eyes rolling at myself again!

Back to layer C – die cut scraps of red cardstock for the berries.

Here you see the back of the inked, embossed wreath…I placed pieces of thin mounting tape over the berry holes.  Link below… I love this mounting tape!

Then turn the wreath over and using a pickup tool of your choice add the berries to the holes and they will stick in place!  Easy!

Ink scraps of white cardstock with Rustic Wilderness Distress ink, cut into pieces to lay over the holly leaves on layer A and run it through the machine.

Turn wreath back over and line it up to layer A to match up your Holly. Then turn it right side up and glue on the Holly.

Remember it’s opposite…

No earthly idea why in this picture the green is a funky color! lol

I wanted to show that the wreath is super fun just inking the solid wreath without embossing too.  At the last minute I thought to splatter it with some white spray ink.  I didn’t go back and splatter my card though.

So I’m showing three variations using these dies differently than they were intended!  Let’s make Christmas cardmaking fun! lol

Holler if you have any questions.  I have some old videos showing how to do embossing with dies too.

Sending You Some Vitamin Sea!

Hi everyone! Check out the latest release from Memory Box, ‘June Island Vacation’!  I had fun playing with these products!

I embossed the fish with the NEW Ocean Fish 3D Embossing Folder, then I used the NEW coordinating Ocean Fish stencil set to color the fish!  It worked great!

I have no idea what colors these fish should be! lol  I used my mug of dye ink blender brushes!  I didn’t add any ink, I just used the ink that was in the brushes and used the green, blue and bluegreen brushes over yellow.  Orange and red together on the other!

The Ocean Fish Folder comes with matching dies, so I die cut the fish after coloring.

For the background piece, I used the Memory Box Underwater 3d embossing folder on white cardstock, then used my Distress Oxide blender brushes to add color.  Again, just the color that was in the brushes.  I guess I was too lazy to get out the ink pads!  Funny girl yesterday! lol

I used mounting tape to mount the fish to the background piece and added some clear Fairy Drops.

The sentiment is heat embossed from the Deep Blue Ocean clear stamp set released last year.  Awesome sentiments and images in this set.  Dies to match too!

I saw Memory Box Dave’s card on the Memory Box website using the Kelp Collage die, also from last year so I used it too!

The last thing I did was add some clear glitter pen to the fish.  I love how it makes it look like shimmery fish!

This will be a fun card to send to someone feeling under the weather.  I love vitamin C anyway… it’s a staple around this house! lol

Lawn Fawn Platform Pop Up Birthday Beach Card…

I have a few of these interactive cards to share with you in the next few days.  The kids all have them now.  I forgot to take a picture to show that it fits in an envelope but it does!

I used some Lawn Fawn stamp sets for the images and the sentiment is from Taylored Expressions.

I sure had fun coloring these.  I used Copic Sketch markers and a little white gel pen.

I had to make the sun because I didn’t have a big enough sun die.  I used a Memory Box slimline die and stitch circle die.

I use pattern paper for the interactive platform die cut.  It works better if it’s not a heavyweight cardstock, in my opinion.

I found a yo yo stamp in a Paper Smooches stamp set.  This card is for Henry and he’s quite the yo yo expert!  I love it!

Holler if you have any questions!  My last photo is a phone picture…a little bit different color wise.

NEW Memory Box Tropical Leaves 3D Embossing Folder and Cutting Dies Card and a storage tip…

It’s a beautiful day here in south central Iowa! I should’ve been out riding my bike this morning! lol  Do any of you have an e bike? Do you like it?  I’m sure tempted to go look and try one of them.

A clean and simple look to my card today.  I used a champagne colored foil to hot foil the sentiment but it looks black.  Figures.

I  didn’t think to try to catch the light when I was taking pictures but it really is foil! poppystamps You Are Amazing Poe Script Greetings Foil and Cut Die Set.

I used Memory Box Wrapped Stitch Rectangles…it’s my go to for cutting panels it seems.  I like it!

I embossed the new 3D folder and die cut the leaves with the included dies, glued them to the white A2 panel except for the top middle leaf, I used the thin mounting tape that I’ll link to below.

I made some pretty little flowers with poppystamps Petite Blooms Flower Set from the most recent release.  The smallest die cut, cut two times for each flower and layered together and glued in the center directly to the panel.

I used the Birch Press Design Simple Dragonfly Contour Layers die from the most recent release and made some pretty tropical dragonflies to land on the card!

Straight forward die cutting and gluing…no inking even! BOOM! lol  Two non inked cards in a row!

Tip: The next two pictures are how I decided to store the 3D folders and dies using the packaging that they come in!  I think it’s really slick!

I take the heavyweight clear piece off of the sturdy cardboard backer they come with and cut the top off of the plastic with a scissors so it becomes a slot when you put it back over the cardboard backer and you can slip the folder and the dies in and out of!  No additional plastic sleeve needed for storage! Perfect!

Thank you for stopping by…holler if you have any questions!

poppystamps Grand Whittle Ice Cream Card…

Hi everyone! It’s that time of year when we’re all trying to keep cool! This card makes me smile because Breyers Natural Neapolitan Ice Cream is a favorite around here!

I made this card before I made the flower cards the other day and without even realizing I used strips again! lol   I love how it turned out!

So cute and screams SUMMER!

I’ll link up what I used below…straight forward for the most part.  I made the narrow frame by taping two of the Memory Box Basic Rectangle dies together.  (I leave them taped together just in case I need to make another before I need them apart!)

I stamped the sentiments then used the sentiment die that comes in the NEW poppystamps Modest Greetings set.

This last shot is a little too pink… I didn’t try to change it but it’s Taylored Expressions Strawberry Milkshake cardstock, I’ll ink below.

Thanks for stopping by! I appreciate it!  I can’t believe it’s almost the 4th of July!  I haven’t made a 4th card yet this year but I love making patriotic cards.  I made a card to share next with Memory Box NEW Release.  Then I have a bunch of birthday cards to share so I hope you don’t get tired of me blasting you with blog posts!  😀
