Explosion Box Tutorial…

Pictures in previous post…HERE!

  • for the box bottom, cut a 12×12 piece of card-stock
  • cut on solid lines
  • score and fold on dotted lines

  • decorate the panels with nestabilities square and scallop square die cuts and other stamped or die cut images
  • for the box lid, cut an 8 1/8th in. square piece of card-stock
  • score at 1 in. and at 2 in. on all four sides with the Martha Stewart score board (link below), that leaves you with a 4 1/8th square in the center of your big square.

  • cut out the three scored 1 in. squares on each corner of this box lid piece
  • fold on remaining score lines to make the box lid sides
  • notice you have to cut up one of the 1 in. score lines on each side, to make the tab that will go under the side folds.  (this will make sense when you’re doing it)
  • fold in the side scores to the inside of the box lid… makes a really nice finished edge to the lid
  • glue or tape if you want to,  you don’t have to but I did

Exploding parts…

  • to get the balloons to stand up, I just took the packaging acetate from the Nestabilities Parisian die set and cut strips about 3/16th in. wide and 3 3/4 in. long.
  • I cut two squiggles and two balloons (for each strip) from CC Cutters dies (link below) and sandwiched each strip between the dies, gluing them in place with Tombow Mono Multi glue (link below). I made nine pop-up balloons,  so cut 9 acetate strips and 18 balloons and 18 squiggles!
  • I scored each strip on one end at 1/4th in. and then tucked them in, one in each of three holes that are in the center of the decorative circle die from the Parisian die set (link below), using the micro mini glue dots (link below) to hold them in place. Then I glued the die cut circle down.
  • to make Birthday Gretel (link below) stand up,  I cut a piece of the same packaging, 1/2in. wide and 5 1/2in. long.  Scored this piece on the Martha Stewart score board (link below) at 1/2in., 2 1/2in, 3 in., and at 5 in., fold it up into a standing rectangle, taping it together and to the back of Gretel and to the box.

Stamps and supplies I used are linked below…thanks for stopping by and so glad you liked my Birthday Exploding box!

Day 2 – April Preview…

Oh NO!  I feel a song coming on.. “it had to be YOU”! lol   Another great set by Amy R. from CC Designs, called “All About You“.  I got this card finished and immediately thought of some other ideas I could have used!  So… down the road…there will be more of these!  The “it’s a celebration” stamp is from the “It’s Your Birthday set” in the store HERE.  I love all these word sets! You can be so creative in mixing and matching them up with each other!  The brackets dies are coming!!! Part of the April release, in the store April 3rd HERE!

I used the My Minds Eye Hattie 6×6 paper pad, in the store HERE.  Stamped the words with Versafine Onyx Black ink, the post card paper is a few years old, from Making Memories and the banner is an old, old, OLD triangle punch from Emagination Crafts… see,  I told you!  OLD! lol  I glued the triangles to a piece of SU card-stock with Mono Multi glue, in the store HERE (my favorite glue ever) and then cut two sides with the Fiskars mini pinking decorative edge scissors.

What else is new?  LOTS!  new Stamping Bella images… new Wild Rose images and papers…in the store HERE and the list of what’s NEW is HERE.   I almost forgot!  Christine has added to the clearance section too,  HERE!

Stay Tuned… more to come this week…and click over to the ATS blog to see the other gal’s work and link up for a chance to win!!!

April Previews start today!

The new kid on the block… Rain Lilliput!  I truly do LOVE her!  I have this “thing” about umbrellas anyway! (see me ‘n my umbrella on my ATC HERE)  The April release will be in the store Sunday, April 3rd, HERE.

I stamped Lilliput on 140# Cold Press Watercolor paper with the full size Versafine Onyx Black ink and colored her with Distress Inks, in the store HERE. The sentiment is from Amy R.’s Get Well sentiment set, in the store HERE I used my little square Versafine Black ink pad to just ink up parts of the sentiment and with my stamp a ma jig,  stamped it on the clouds.  The clouds are a new die for the April release too!  They’ll be in the store HERE, on April 3rd also.  The pattern paper is the My Minds Eye 6×6 pad, Gertie, in the store HERE.  Hero Arts gemstones on the clouds,  Magnolia Doohickey dies for the flower and leaves, in the store HERE and HERE. (the leaves are the poinsettia Doohickey die)

Distress colors I used…

  • face – tattered rose, vintage photo and a touch of worn lipstick on her cheeks
  • hair – antique linen, vintage photo and walnut stain
  • umbrella, boots – tumbled glass
  • coat – aged mahogany
  • skirt – crushed olive
  • a little black soot here and there…
  • and weathered wood around the image for shadowing…

Challenges I’m linking to…

CC Designs March Review…

Today I’m spotlighting the new CC Cutters Balloon die by CC Designs at All That Scraps, HERE. Check out the ATS blog for the other DT gal’s creations!  Always love to go study the DT work! : )  I also used Emma with her wagon (there is a pumpkin in the wagon, I just didn’t ink it up, it’s easy to tap the ink on and miss the pumpkin), she’s in the store HERE.  She is stamped on PaperTrey Ink card-stock with Memento Tuxedo Black in, in the store HERE and colored with Copic Sketch Markers, in the store HERE… be sure to get the new colors!  I used a couple of the new colors on Emma and the sky,   BG70 and one on her hair YR30.  I used E50, YR30, 31 21,23 on her hair – Apron BG70, 72 (tip to tip) – dress the B90’s – shoes E43, 44, 47, 49 – skin E000, 00, 01 and diluted R20 for cheeks (R00 refill) – wagon E95, 97, 99, W3, 5, 7, 9, E07, 08, 19, 18 – sidewalk drawn in with a copic multi-liner pen W0, 1, 3, 5 – grass YG93, 95, 97, 99 and BG70 and BG0000 for the sky.   I thought the sky was dark but it dried lighter than I thought it would!  Wish you could see it IRL,  it came out cool.  The number 8 is a Quickutz die from the Diesel alphabet set.

It’s hard to see but I drew in white plaid on her apron with a opaque white pen,  in the store HERE.  She is one of my favorite images from CC Designs…glad I don’t have to pick a fave though.. it would be tooooooo HARD!

The My Minds Eye Pattern paper pad that I used is just back in stock at the store HERE and is called “Hattie” … an awesome 6×6 pad,  love it!  Check out the other three from MME too HERE. I find them a bit easier to use than BG…shame on me!  I only have a million of the BG pads to use,  so I must keep on working with them… do you find that though…that some are easier than others???

The sentiment, “SWEET” is from Amy R’s new “It’s Your Birthday” sentiment set, in the store HERE.  I love both of these new sets this month…really easy to finish out the whole card,  outside and in!!!

I used the Sweet Stop Sketches Challenge blog’s sketch for Emma and the spin this time is “sweet”.  No problem with that!  Emma is that and more! lol  The Stamp Something Challenge blog’s theme is “Something Sweet”, that’s our Emma! : )  The Wild Orchid Crafts Challenge blog’s theme is “Die”ing to Punch it out!  I die cut the number eight and the balloons!

I made the rolled flowers from a Stampin Up scallop circle punch.  The three leaves underneath are a Magnolia Doohickey’s die, in the store HERE… yep… love these poinsettia leaves! hahahahaha  I did emboss lines/veins on them,  but hard to see on the dark paper.

I think that’s pretty much all for now… oh,  the card-stock is SU almost navy.. hmmm… that doesn’t sound right,  correct me….I’m always challenged trying to match pattern papers to card-stock… I could be faster if these companies would put on the cover what card-stocks match their papers! hahahahaha… would that be cheating?  oh that would be wonderful! lol

I’ll shut up for now!  Thanks for stopping by and ttul!
